I always remember very early on hearing in our support group about three families whose children were friends and how they would play pretend families. The kids would pretend someone was pregnant and discuss if they were the tummy mommy or adoptive mommy. Sometimes, they would welcome a new adopted child and talk about visits to the birth family and how they felt. This was normal for these children to incorporate open adoption into their play. I knew that we had some teachable moments through their play.
